Q&A with Indashio
-
How did you become a stylist, and now a fashion designer?
I started by giving my friends advice in high school and styling them. You always need a muse. My first muse was my sister. I love to create looks and styles
-
What's your design style?
Young, Sexy & Fearless!
-
Tell us something about your latest work, the American Dream Collection. What inspired you in this creation?
I was inspired by The American Dream. President Obama was my muse. He is someone who resembles the modern day American Dream and proves no matter who you are and where you're come from if you work hard and believe, anything is possible. I also was inspired by his support of human rights and gay marriage. He is a real leader and definitely an inspiration, so I did this collection as a tribute to him as well as to campaign his re-election. When he was reelected and gave his speech, it was a very moving moment for me.
-
What's the weirdest or most unconventional material you have worked with?
CD's, Newspaper, Old Shoes, Dog Toys have all been items I've used in my past collections you never know where your next inspiration will come from. That's why I LOVE DESIGN GENIUS, because it takes a real genius to think outside the box.
-
What's your favorite challenge on the show?
I love them all. In every challenge, I wanted to jump in there and make my own creations! So if I ever heard any of the contestants complain, it would boggle my mind because I knew they weren't exploring the possibilities. Being a Design Genius is first about Vision, then Execution.
My Favorite challenge on the show I would say would be the finale, but I don't want to give anything away.
-
What qualities make someone a Design Genius?
Vision. Passion. Execution
-
Which designer(s) in the competition impressed you the most? Why?
I was drawn to each of the designers for different reasons; they all had something. It was fun for me to see their imaginations come alive during each challenge.
I was very impressed with Ivana, her focus and her detail to craftsmanship. Other standouts were Sandro, Lalit and Anja.
-
What do you think was the most difficult part or challenge that the contestants have to face in the competition?
Making the unimaginable, fashionable! Time management, different personalities and _25,000 cash prize! Money changes everything and everyone wants to win!
-
In what way has the show inspired you as a designer?
The show has inspired me in many ways with my own collections I've taken inspiration from many of the designer contestants and seeing their ambition inspires me! I am looking forward to coming up with even crazier challenges in season 2.
