Rapid TV News: Fashion One TV Adds Malaysian Channel
US-based fashion channel Fashion
One TV has announced its third Asian service as the broadcaster seeks to increase its international business.
Parent company Bigfoot Entertainment has agreed a deal with fledgling Malaysian IPTV platform DETV to carry the service.
Fashion
One launched in April and has so far launched in the Philippines (on cable’s Global Destiny) and Thailand. GlobeCast is the channel’s sole distributor in Asia.
“We are excited to have on board a top fashion and entertainment channel such as Fashion
One as we continuously strive to enhance our offering to subscribers,” Wei Chuan Beng, Managing Director of DETV said. DETV, which launched in January, is a subsidiary of broadband service provider REDtone.
“The Asia-Pacific region has undoubtedly one of the strongest growth potential in broadband and IPTV adoption rates, and we are proud to be represented by the forerunner in digital broadcasting in Malaysia,” said Eric Klein, CEO of Fashion
One. “We are pleased to be a part of DETV’s expanding portfolio of international channels, and we are optimistic that viewers’ expectations will be exceeded further when we launch our channel in High-Definition digitally over the internet in Malaysia.”
Fashion
One is also distributed via three satellites – Galaxy 19 at 97 degrees West, Hot Bird at 13 degrees East and AsiaSat 3S at 105.5 degrees East.
The channel raised US$14 million back in September to boost its in-house production slate (Bigfoot has studios in LA and Cebu in the Philippines) as well as expanding its reach by adding more satellite capacity and upgrading existing broadcasts to full HD.
