Dirk Bikkembergs Summer 2013

DIRK BIKKEMBERGS

MENSWEAR COLLECTION SUMMER 2013

Imagine the mythical DeLorean of Back to the future: cold technology and pure aerodynamics. Now imagine the warmth of realistic paintings. This apparent contrast gives origin to the new Dirk Bikkembergs Spring/ Summer 2013 collection as interpreted by Hamish Morrow. Transparency is the leitmotiv of the entire collection, the metaphor of a research that reaches far beyond the surface of the sports world, instead exploring into the very essence of what it is. Walking the runway is a sportsman that does not flaunt his physical character but displays it through well-meditated transparencies that allow the admiration of both the sartorial structure of the items he wears and his flawless physical shape. The men wear brushed aluminium with sartorial nylon jackets that are also transparent. He loves jersey; it is comfortable yet sophisticated at the same time. Heat sealing is a must: borrowed from sports but reinterpreted by the maison with a couture style. Then comes an aesthetic realism, made of both organic and synthetic traits, with graphic designs and brightly coloured floral prints. While the focus is, on one hand, on ergonomic items that outline and enhance the body shape, on the other hand, wide volumes are pursued. A brand new focus exploring oversize, another extreme fit. The colour palette ranges from optical white to bright orange through mélange grey hues, mint, sand, and electric blue. Sharp colours are also used for refined python patterns, and unexpected fluorescent touches on the heels of footwear. Black is a must for the evening. Past and future are the catchwords, combined with subtle elegance and refinement. Lights go off, the essence of the Dirk Bikkembergs man comes on.
